Dubai hosted the ninth edition of the 2026 Construction Technology Conference, bringing together more than 1,400 leaders from the construction, real estate and data-infrastructure sectors in the Gulf region to examine how artificial intelligence, automation and expanded digital infrastructure can reshape the built environment. The event ran alongside the Real Estate Technology and Data Center Technology conferences, featured over 200 speakers and 50 sponsors and exhibitors, and delivered 15 live demos, reflecting an increasing overlap between the lifecycle of built assets and advanced digital data facilities.

The discussions and workshops focused on addressing the long-standing challenges of megaprojects and smart-city initiatives, particularly shortening schedules, limiting cost overruns and improving delivery outcomes through robotics, digital twins and prefabricated modular systems. The most notable shift in the regional construction sector is the move from isolated digital software to connected platforms that provide a comprehensive view of the entire project lifecycle. This shift enables teams to detect risks early, tighten cost control and make decisions based on data rather than theoretical estimates.

The Construction Technology Awards accompanying the conference, which were contested by 146 independently judged nominations, reflected the actual deployment of these technologies in the region’s largest projects. Saudi Aramco’s Natural Gas Liquids Projects division won the annual Digital Twin award, while the Tim Lab Phenomena Abu Dhabi project, a joint effort by Miral and Alik, received the Building Information Modeling award, and the King Abdullah Economic City earned the Digital Projects award for smart urban operations and asset-lifecycle management. Off-site manufacturing solutions also stood out, with Shoba’s Modular Units winning for the Shoba One project and the King Salman Global Complex for Marine Industries and Services receiving recognition, confirming the shift of technologies from isolated pilots to delivery standards adopted by major owners.

This landscape is complemented by recognition of major organisations that have embraced institutional transformation, with Dubai Municipality receiving the Digital Transformation award for government and owner entities, Trojan winning Contractor of the Year, and Shoba Realty earning the Building Information Modeling Institutional award through its architectural arm BNC.Artificial intelligence and unified data management have become a core pillar for rethinking how field teams connect with central departments. This approach enhances contractors’ and developers’ ability to accelerate decisions and turn digital efficiency into tangible cost savings on the ground.

Across project engineers and managers in the Gulf, Egypt and the Arab Levant, this trajectory imposes a structural shift in required skills and contracting terms, as Building Information Modeling is no longer merely a requirement for delivering two- or three-dimensional designs but is now tied to direct integration with digital twins and operational asset management. Construction firms that rely on disparate tools will face direct pressure from developers and government bodies that now mandate unified platforms that expose real-time performance indicators. The practical step here is to train scheduling and cost-engineering staff on predictive platforms and align engineering modelling outputs so they can be integrated with maintenance and smart-operation systems from the earliest planning stage.

The conference deliberations confirmed that major projects in the Middle East no longer rely solely on large budgets; they now make digital-flow efficiency a prerequisite for controlling margins and delivering assets on schedule.
