The “Processor World” platform launched a competition for writing articles and stories with total prizes up to $100,000, posing a unconventional question about the future of AI by exploring what the world would become if the technical development of leading generative models halted at their current level recorded on September 1, 2026, while graphics processor manufacturing continued to expand at accelerating rates that would provide computing abundance for every person by 2040.

The initiative, whose jury includes science-fiction writer Neal Stephenson and researchers غويرن برانوين and مات هوانغ, starts from the hypothesis that the primary current obstacle is not a shortfall in AI capabilities but the computational poverty humanity experiences. Global factories produce only a few million graphics processors each year that can efficiently run advanced models, which limits the use of leading models to a very narrow segment and deprives billions of people of direct interaction with them.

The competition’s intellectual wager does not rely on anticipating the birth of superintelligent AI, but on extending current capabilities to reach every individual on the planet.The initiative assumes that with hardware and software expansion and improvement, 2040 may see the availability of the equivalent of 8 billion graphics processors worldwide, giving each person computing power comparable to a “B-300” processor dedicated to running advanced models continuously without interruption. The competition invites writers and researchers to submit texts of 1,000 to 5,000 words studying the impact of this abundance in areas such as personalized education, precision medical care, surveillance systems, and specifically its effect on developing societies.

The competition set October 31, 2026 as the deadline for submissions in Markdown or PDF format, with results announced in December. The first place receives $40,000, the second $20,000, the third $12,000, plus seven finalist awards of $4,000 each, and the winning works will be published under a Creative Commons license. Although the use of language models is permitted with disclosure, the organizers warned that relying on generative AI for writing diminishes the authenticity and quality of texts, reducing the chances of winning before the evaluation panels.

This proposal carries a strategically significant implication for the Gulf markets, Egypt, and the Levant, shifting the focus from chasing the theoretical model race to operational hardware readiness.Given that regional governments are investing billions of dollars in data centers and securing graphics processor infrastructure, this scenario shows that future operational value will not lie in awaiting new supermodels, but in localizing computing capacity and using current models with inference costs approaching zero. This shift means that banks and governmental bodies in the Gulf can run fully independent, protected local models, while startups and development teams in Egypt and the Levant can build advanced educational and health services without fearing rising cloud-billing burdens.
