Betting $1.25 billion on generative messaging, Wabi agent creates instant micro-apps
Has the era of traditional chat windows and text command fields in AI software ended? A new financing round of $55 million raises the valuation of the “Wabi” platform to $1.25 billion, announcing its entry into the billion-dollar club thanks to a radical shift in how users interact with intelligent agents.
The company was founded by Eugenia Quida, who previously founded the smart companion company “Replika.” The initial focus of the “Wabi” platform was to enable any user to build software applications by writing direct text commands. However, last month the project underwent a strategic shift, repositioning itself as a smart messaging application that acts as a personal agent under the name “Wabi 2.0.”
The new concept relies on the smart agent building APIs and custom micro-applications on demand, rather than merely providing text replies within a chat box. The company showcases the ability to invoke this agent to create instant, specialized tools such as meal planning, local restaurant tracking, activity and meeting scheduling, fitness routine generation, and custom educational games for the user.
The investment bet does not purchase a simple text-answer model; it funds flexible user interfaces that appear and dissolve as soon as the required task is completed. The size of the funding reflects growing confidence among investment funds in the trajectory of personal agents capable of moving beyond dialog boxes, especially as momentum builds around the sector; the smart agent “Instinct” secured $1 billion in financing at a $10 billion valuation in September, and the “Tulan” platform, which builds a smart interactive companion to help users manage daily life, raised $30 million.
The latest investment round was led by the venture-capital firm IVP. Alex Lim, general partner at IVP, said in a public statement that the company has a unique sense of the direction AI aims for and a proven taste for building, affirming that its vision of how humans interact with intelligent systems goes far beyond the limits of text boxes and traditional command-line interfaces.
The round also included contributions from major investors such as Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Four Runner, and the Amazon Alexa fund, alongside a roster of prominent angel investors, including Toby Lütke, CEO of Shopify, Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce, Marissa Mayer, former CEO of Yahoo, Dick Costolo, former CEO of Twitter, and Alex Paul, a member of The Shins Makers.
This shift from command interfaces to instant applications presents digital product teams and software designers with a new reality. For those building digital applications and services in the Gulf and Egypt, competition is no longer limited to improving the response time of automated conversations; it now requires reconsidering the total cost of building digital interfaces. When a personal agent can construct a temporary sub-interface to book a service or schedule a workout in seconds, the required skill shifts from designing static pages to configuring the agent’s logic that generates interfaces according to the consumer’s wishes, raising the competitive bar for service-oriented applications that rely on rigid user experiences.
