Media Innovation Camp yields 150 projects: 100 hours to integrate AI and build models
Entrepreneurial media pathways in the region have moved from gathering theoretical ideas to rigorous field feasibility tests. The "Media Innovation Camp", the initiative emerging from the Saudi Media Forum, announced the launch of a development and mentorship program dedicated to supporting participating media projects, refining their models and preparing them for advanced development stages. This step follows a broad screening that included more than 300 projects submitted from 25 countries, with the final selection narrowed to 150 projects only to move to the next implementation phase.
The criterion here is not the number of applicants, but the ability to endure in a real production environment. The new program is based on providing 100 hours of specialized mentorship and focused technical consulting, alongside five specialized training workshops aimed at raising participants' competence and equipping them with the expertise needed to build and develop their emerging media projects. These workshops, led by members of the Saudi Innovation Club and held weekly every Monday, are divided into five critical pillars covering aspects of digital and commercial transformation in the sector.
The five workshops include a specialized training program led by field experts: Dr. Walid Al-Shamimri leads a workshop on creative thinking and its impact on innovators, while Dr. Amani Al-Burikan leads a workshop on artificial intelligence in media to examine mechanisms for integrating algorithms into newsrooms and content production. Dr. Wafaa Al-Ahmadi delivers a workshop on building prototypes, followed by a workshop on sustainable solutions presented by Engineer Mohammed Al-Amoudi, before Engineer Tarek Bamasaq concludes the series with a workshop on presentation and speaking skills to prepare teams for evaluation panels and investors.
The ultimate goal is to turn the initial proposals into mature, sustainable commercial entities. In addition to the weekly workshops, daily mentorship and consulting sessions will run for a full month, giving qualified teams direct access to mentors from the Saudi Innovation Club to overcome operational obstacles and develop practical, sustainable solutions that respond to rapid shifts in the media industry and AI breakthroughs. These intensive activities will culminate within the Saudi Media Forum, hosted in Riyadh from 1 to 3 February 2027, in strategic partnership with the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) and the Saudi Innovation Club.
What does this shift mean for those working in digital media, content creators and technical teams in the Gulf, Egypt and the Levant? The traditional model of a media organization with editorial rooms separate from the software architecture is receding in favor of projects built from day one as digital products. The involvement of a regulatory and technical body the size of SDAIA as a main partner in this camp sends a clear signal to employment and investment markets in the region: projects that will receive future government or institutional funding and support will not be those that produce traditional text or video pieces, but entities capable of embedding AI tools into the workflow and developing practical, measurable prototypes.
Developers and professionals in the region need to realize that the upcoming competition will not revolve around sheer coverage speed, but around engineering and automating media processes and ensuring business model sustainability. Reducing 300 international proposals to 150 projects and then subjecting them to 100 hours of examination and mentorship defines the most in-demand skill in the next phase: the ability to move an idea from discussion space to a prototype that demonstrates economic and technical viability before reaching the presentation platforms in February 2027.
