From showcase platforms to industrial inspection: Chinese robots debut embodied intelligence presence at LEAP 2026
The robot showcase at the “LEAP 2026” tech conference in Riyadh, organized by the Saudi Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and other entities under the slogan “Towards New Worlds” from August 31 to September 3, turned into a live exhibition platform for the new generation of smart hardware. The participating pavilions no longer limit themselves to interactive screens or cloud computing software, but have moved the competition to field devices and arena battles that establish a practical presence of embodied intelligence in the region’s markets.
Chinese company “Unitrary Robotics” captured visitors’ attention with a live boxing ring featuring two humanoid robots wearing gloves and protective helmets that delivered circular punches and kicks, demonstrating agile movement and rapid response.The shift from abstract demos to advanced mechanics reflects an accelerating conversion of motion models into products capable of interacting in environments that require coordinated physical responses.In an adjacent pavilion, Chinese company “Agibot” showcased its four-legged robot “Agicad D1 Max Pro,” equipped with a dedicated seat to test its ability to carry heavy loads and adapt to varied terrain, designed for industrial inspection tasks and emergency rescue operations.
The innovations also extended to consumer devices; the company “Honer” displayed its “Robot Phone,” the first commercially manufactured phone that integrates a three-axis mechanical pivot within its chassis to deliver advanced imaging and tracking capabilities, and also announced two additional robot-sector models that the company plans to launch in the Saudi market, according to Liu Gang, the company’s chief executive in the Kingdom, who noted that these pathways align with Vision 2030 objectives.
The Chinese move went beyond a transient exhibition presence; “Agibot” established a Middle-East-focused team to monitor local partnerships and develop the embodied-intelligence sector in collaboration with regional entities, according to Deng Feng, the company’s head for the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific.Establishing on-ground engineering and operations teams shortens the distance between production lines and infrastructure projects in the Gulf.Chinese ambassador to Riyadh, Zhang Hua, confirmed that his country’s companies are conducting direct practical talks with Saudi partners to activate robot deployments in real-world work environments.
For operations managers and technical executives in the Gulf, Egypt and the Arab East, this flow shifts decision-making from merely adopting software vendors to preparing sites for physical automation. The availability of field inspection robots and autonomous devices at competitive manufacturing prices compels industrial firms and infrastructure developers to revisit operation-and-maintenance contracts, to qualify local technical teams to handle smart machines and integrate them with central monitoring systems, rather than relying exclusively on imported software tools.
