Global NTT Data is preparing to showcase its AI-based systems at the LEAP 2026 conference in Riyadh, a move that reflects the accelerating competition among major consulting and tech-infrastructure groups to cement their positions in smart-city projects and corporate transformation within Gulf markets. The company, which runs worldwide operations valued at over $30 billion and allocates more than $3 billion annually to research and development, focuses on delivering an integrated architecture that includes sovereign AI, independent agents, digital twins, robotics, and automated cloud computing and cyber-security processes.

This participation is driven by direct regional investments that have enhanced the company’s operational capabilities in the area, most notably the acquisition of Zero and One, which has allowed it to expand the delivery of advanced solutions locally across the Middle East and Africa. The current bet is not limited to showcasing isolated software models; it is moving toward integrating communication networks and edge infrastructure with data-management platforms, to transform urban environments from merely wired and wireless cities into integrated systems capable of predicting, learning and acting directly to improve the management of utilities, transportation and buildings.

Shifting from data collection to operating agents capable of making field decisions places digital sovereignty at the core of the architectural design of urban systems.This direction aligns with Saudi targets that aim to inject investments through a fund of $40 billion and raise the sector’s contribution to $135 billion of GDP by 2030, making the localization of cloud infrastructure and the protection of data flows a prerequisite for adopting automated-operation solutions in both the public and private sectors.

For technology leaders and infrastructure managers in the Gulf, Egypt and the region, this shift resets partnership criteria with global service providers. Project requirements no longer focus solely on migrating workloads to the cloud or purchasing standard operating licenses; the emphasis is now on selecting platforms that support sovereign computing and enable the deployment of AI agents that operate locally on secure infrastructure, without compromising the privacy of governmental or corporate data.

The model also requires engineering and systems-management teams in regional companies to develop advanced skills in edge computing and AI-operations management, to link field-sensor streams with real-time decision-making systems. As global firms increasingly rely on engineering arms acquired regionally, the ability to engineer digital twins and manage task-directed agents becomes a key benchmark for building modern enterprise systems.
