Taxstar, an AI-powered tax and compliance software platform, has closed a 1.75 million dollar seed funding round backed primarily by angel investors. Founded in 2023 by Rehan Aleem and Haris Tasawar, the startup will use the capital to expand its go-to-market activities and develop its software infrastructure, helping businesses meet tax compliance and e-invoicing requirements in the UAE and the wider region.
The platform's pre-accreditation as an approved service provider for the UAE e-invoicing system serves as the primary anchor for deploying this round. The company operates as a technical bridge connecting commercial enterprises to the upcoming e-invoicing infrastructure. This pre-accreditation confirms its technical and operational readiness ahead of binding regulatory deadlines, enabling it to absorb rising demand from businesses seeking to align their accounting and regulatory standing in the local market.
The timing of the funding aligns with a fast-approaching regulatory timeline in the UAE, where companies with annual revenues of 50 million dirhams or more face a mandatory deadline to appoint an accredited service provider by 30 October 2026, ahead of the first mandatory implementation phase scheduled for January 2027. Through the funding, the platform aims to help businesses meet these requirements smoothly without disrupting daily commercial and operational workflows.
The platform is the first AI-powered corporate tax compliance software in the UAE and an accredited service provider listed on the Xero and QuickBooks app stores with direct integration. The system also integrates with other accounting and management software, including Zoho, Odoo, and Nuqood, facilitating tax automation. The platform developed its operating model through accelerator programs including Plug and Play, Dubai Founders Hub, and the Microsoft for Startups program, while aiming to align with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.
Rehan Aleem, co-founder and chief executive of the platform, said the funding allows the company to focus on easing compliance burdens for commercial enterprises while investing directly in the team, product, and market activities to scale broadly. The platform plans to direct the proceeds toward enhancing product capabilities and expanding market reach rather than limiting itself to narrow software integrations, alongside establishing a long-term roadmap for gradual expansion into GCC and European markets through its digital invoicing system.
