Data scientist for bank risk at DeepLight AI, Dubai and Abu Dhabi
DeepLight AI is seeking a temporary data scientist in the UAE to build banks’ credit-risk and capital models in line with Basel requirements.
Not all data science jobs in the Gulf focus on generative models. DeepLight AI’s new posting seeks a data scientist who knows probability of default and the Basel standard before knowing the latest library, and works with bank treasuries and corporate lending departments of the company’s regional clients.
RoleData Scientist at DeepLight AI, on a temporary contract with on-site attendance, advertised in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, UAE. DeepLight AI is an AI and data consulting firm that builds custom systems for companies and has particular depth in financial and banking services, as described in its own posting.
Primary challengeTransforming complex banking problems into production-ready statistical models across treasury, corporate banking, and institutional lending departments. This includes the three credit-risk models, probability of default (PD), loss given default (LGD) and exposure at default (EAD), as well as analytical units for risk-adjusted return on capital (RAROC) to help business lines raise their risk-adjusted returns. All of this operates under strict regulatory constraints: Basel III and Basel IV requirements, stress-test scenarios, and regulatory capital rules.
Key requirements
- Hands-on experience building statistical risk models or quantitative frameworks within corporate, wholesale or treasury banking.
- Theoretical and practical understanding of the mathematical and probabilistic concepts behind machine-learning tools, beyond merely calling libraries.
- Proficiency in Python and its scientific stack: NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, Statsmodels, together with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Practical knowledge of the Basel framework, regulatory capital calculations, and stress-test protocols.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in statistics, mathematics, data science, quantitative finance or a related field.
SalaryNot disclosed. The posting mentions a competitive salary, gold-tier health insurance, an individual visa sponsorship and support for professional certifications.
Practical stepThis role is more suited to candidates coming from banks than from tech firms. If you are a credit-risk analyst or a quantitative analyst in a bank treasury, start your résumé with a model you actually built and the decision it altered, and cite the Basel framework you worked within. Note that the contract is temporary, so ask early about its duration.
