What changed: SignalFire data published on June 24 challenges the prevailing narrative. Although overall hiring at major technology companies is down 25% from 2019 levels, engineering roles have declined by only 11%. Engineers accounted for 55% of all new hires at the largest technology companies.
What it means for you: AI has not eliminated the engineer. It has increased engineers’ productivity and opened up a seemingly endless volume of work. Roles built on top of the tools endure, while roles that compete with the tools erode. The rule applies in the region as much as it does in Silicon Valley.
