Saudi AI firm “Humanine” and vehicle-software company “Ablade Intuition” unveiled a field plan targeting the launch of self-driving trucks on Saudi Arabia’s roads within one year. The announcement was made at the “Leap” tech conference in Riyadh, attended by Humanine’s chief executive Tarek Amin and Ablade Intuition’s chief executive Qasim Younis, with a live demonstration of a truck equipped with the technology.

The project’s ultimate goal goes beyond limited pilot tests: deploying thousands of autonomous trucks on Saudi Arabia’s road network by 2030.According to both parties, the alliance aims to establish what they describe as the world’s largest autonomous road-freight network, linking seaports with industrial cities and logistics distribution hubs across the country.

Technical responsibilities are clearly divided: Humanine, owned by the Public Investment Fund, leads the sovereign AI infrastructure, while the U.S. company provides its physical-AI platform and autonomous-driving software suite. The system relies on the American firm’s autonomous-driving stack together with its vehicle operating system and ancillary solutions, which are already deployed on roads in the United States, Europe and Japan following a financing round and a purchase offer that lifted the company’s valuation to $15 billion last year.

Operationally, the project targets reaching Level 4 autonomy according to the International Society of Automotive Engineers classification, a level that permits the vehicle to operate without human supervision within defined operational domains and conditions, while keeping safety drivers inside the cabins during the initial rollout. Although the financial investment size and the number of trucks in the initial phase were not disclosed, the U.S. company confirmed that it has modified its sensors to cope with the extreme heat and airborne sand of the desert environment that obscure visibility on long highways.

This shift moves the regional AI debate from servers and data centres to logistical reality. For supply-chain managers and fleet operators in the Gulf and Egypt, operating self-driving trucks for longer hours than conventional vehicles increases shipping capacity and fleet utilisation rates, alters the operating-cost equation, and eases the pressure caused by a shortage of qualified long-haul drivers. As technical staff are hired in Riyadh and infrastructure is prepared, the locally required skills become centred on physical-system engineering and sensor-maintenance, putting regional transport companies on an inevitable path to reconfigure their logistics networks before autonomous trucks impose their new pace on trade flows.
