When quality directs AI use, we all benefit
The field of quality and patient safety is incredibly strong, folks… and our slogan is “We’re solid and there’s no one but us”.
Don’t misunderstand me. And damn modestity and this vibe.
That is the slogan for World Quality Week 2026, which says:
Quality: Powering Performance
It means quality is the driving force for improving performance.
Wait… do we really understand quality correctly?
I hear someone saying: quality is just accreditation visits, and we all prepare for assessors’ visits and such?
No, of course not.
That’s just one snapshot of the bigger picture of quality.
Quality in healthcare has six core dimensions, which we abbreviate with the wordSTEEEP:
- Safe:Safe care protects patients from preventable harm.
- Timely:Timely service is provided at the right time, without delays that could affect a patient’s health or life.
- Effective:Effective care is evidence-based and achieves the best possible outcomes.
- Efficient:Efficient use of time and resources without waste.
- Equitable:Equitable care is fair for every beneficiary, without discrimination.
- Patient-centered:Patient-centered care respects the patient’s voice, needs and preferences, and involves them and their family in care decisions.
But I’m not here to talk about quality alone!
I’m here to talk about quality plus AI!
From Nahal to NEHAL!
When they asked me: what changed in you after you started learning AI?
I told them:I became NEHAL!cool
New Efficient Healthcare AI Leader
And now I have a message I want to convey to everyone in the healthcare system.
Medical students, faculty members, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, labs, infection control, quality, human resources, finance, administrators and leaders…
Each of us can add AI capabilities to our expertise and work, increasing our productivity, improving performance quality, and contributing to enhanced patient safety and better beneficiary experience.
But of course, using it responsibly and consciously!
And keep in mind…I say we augment, not replace!
Because we are the foundation, and we cannot eliminate our role and expertise.
AI = Artificial Intelligence
When we use it to enhance our capabilities and expertise, not to replace them, that is the concept we call:
Augmented Intelligence
That is the concept I love and strongly promote.
We are the Pilot, AI is the Copilot, and quality is the compass of the journey!
We define the problem and goal, we review, decide and take responsibility.
AI helps us analyze, plan, execute and innovate.

And quality helps us ask:
Is what we did correct? Is it safe? Did it achieve a result? And how do we measure improvement?
But wait… does speed mean quality?
Imagine, for example, a nurse using AI to designHandover Checklista handover checklist for transferring patients between shifts.
Very nice.
But does merely designing the checklist mean that handover quality has improved?
Here the quality lens comes into play!
Instead of just designing an appealing model, we review it with the team, test it, measure information completeness during handover, and see whether gaps have truly decreased.
That is, we compare performance before and after implementation.
And thus we combine:
Healthcare practitioner expertise + quality methodology + AI capabilities = measurable improvement.
Because there is a big difference between AI helping us finish a task faster and AI helping us truly improve performance quality.
Okay… shall we add NEHAL to our team?
Hold on… I don’t mean to add myself personally to your team!
Although I would be honored, of course!
What I mean is that each of us can become:
NEHAL, New Efficient Healthcare AI Leader
and becomeAI Championin their workplace.
Your name doesn’t have to be Nahal!
Nor do you have to be an expert in every AI tool.
All you need is to start with your expertise, understand the challenges you or your team face, use the quality lens to comprehend and measure them, and leverage AI to help develop practical solutions.
Alright… enough talk. Let’s try something practical.
I don’t want you to finish reading the article and say: nice words, and close the page!
I want each person to try it themselves, whatever their specialty or role in the healthcare system.
And for that reason I prepared for you2 Prompts, choose the one that suits you, and paste it into any AI tool you use, such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude.
First prompt: Do you have a problem at work and need a solution?
This is for anyone who has a challenge or task that consumes their time and wants to know how to use AI to improve it.
Copy this prompt and only change the information inside the brackets:

"I work in [your specialty/role] in the [department] of a [type of health facility].
I have the following problem or challenge: [explain the problem briefly].
I want you to help me think with a Quality Improvement mindset and leverage AI capabilities to develop practical solutions.
Start by asking me for the missing information to understand the problem, and then:
- Analyze the problem and suggest possible causes, indicating what needs to be verified.
- Propose three practical solutions that could use AI, and specify appropriate tools.
- Choose with me the easiest solution to start testing, and explain the implementation steps in detail.
- Write me the prompt I need for execution.
- Suggest simple indicators (KPIs) to measure performance before and after implementation.
- Describe the required risks and precautions, and what I need to review myself.
Be practical and suited to the nature of my work. Do not assume unverified results, and do not replace human judgment or clinical decisions.
Second prompt: You haven’t used AI yet and don’t know where to start?
No worries! This is made especially for you.
Copy this prompt:
"I work in [your specialty/role] in the healthcare field, and I am still a beginner in using artificial intelligence.
I want to discover how AI could help me in my work and improve the quality of my performance.
Treat me as a beginner, and start by asking me simple questions about the nature of my work and the tasks I perform daily.
And after I answer:
- Suggest to me five practical AI uses suitable for my specialty.
- Explain the benefit of each use and how it could save time or improve work quality.
- Recommend the easiest use for me to start trying.
- Choose an appropriate tool, and teach me how to use it step by step, as if I were trying it for the first time.
- Write me a ready-to-use prompt that I can copy and use, with a training example using fictional data.
- Show me how to review the result and measure the benefit achieved.
Use simple language, explain new terms, and do not assume I have prior experience.
And before you try, a small agreement between us!
Do not share any patient personal data or confidential work information with tools not approved by your institutions.
Remember that AI outputs need your review, especially anything related to care or patient safety.
Now it’s your turn!
Choose the prompt that suits you, and try it.
And I’m waiting for you to share with me onLinkedIn:
- What is your specialty?
- Which prompt did you try?
- What did the AI suggest to you?
- And what did you benefit from or intend to actually try?
If you are still at the beginning of the experience, share the challenges you faced.
Let’s learn from each other’s experiences and turn ideas into real applications and improvements.
Because quality is not only the responsibility of the quality department, and AI is not exclusive to technology experts!
Everyone in the healthcare system can lead quality improvement within their scope of work.
People Lead. Quality Guides. AI Augments. Performance Improves.
Let’s have this in every health facility, in every team…
NEHAL

Because when quality guides AI use… we all benefit!
