Orange Group announced a global investment package in Egypt's digital capabilities, including training grants for around 200,000 trainees in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, and allocating €25 million to support start-ups working in AI and advanced technologies.

The announcement was made as President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi received Orange Group’s CEO Cristal Hayden, alongside Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindy, Orange Middle East and Africa Executive Director Yasser Shaker, and Orange Egypt CEO Hisham Mehran.

Details:The grants provide access to internationally recognised certification and aim to build digital skills among Egyptian youth in line with presidential directives to expand qualification programmes for the future labour market. They will offer specialised training programmes and opportunities in artificial intelligence, data analytics, cloud computing and cybersecurity, and support participants in obtaining internationally accredited professional certificates in partnership with global technology firms. In addition to training, the group has committed to supporting several Egyptian universities with modern technology labs that enable students to keep pace with the latest practical applications and acquire the skills needed to excel in advanced digital technology fields.

Cristal Hayden praised the Egyptian government’s efforts to support start-ups across the governorates, expressing appreciation for the state’s initiatives and programmes that develop youth skills, boost innovation and foster entrepreneurship. She also affirmed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Egyptian government and Orange Group in preparing and qualifying Egyptian youth for the future labour market.

Wider perspective:This announcement is not an isolated event; it comes amid a series of regional initiatives linking training to employment and entrepreneurship, from Saudi Arabia’s Sadia programmes to Huawei, Google and Microsoft initiatives in the UAE, and Nvidia and Intel programmes in Egypt. The distinction here is scale: a figure of 200,000 trainees places this programme among national, not merely corporate, initiatives.

What this means for you:If you are a developer, researcher or entrepreneur in Egypt or the region, internationally accredited training programmes are now more available than ever. However, the real benchmark is not the number of seats but how well the curricula match actual market needs and whether employment pathways or incubator support exist after graduation. Monitor curriculum details and selection mechanisms, and ensure the certificate opens a doorway rather than merely embellishing a résumé.
