Physical AI was no longer an abstract idea hovering over a stage in Dubai. At the third edition of Build.Industries, attendees held an actual satellite, watched a digital twin operate in front of them, then saw a live demonstration of how artificial intelligence can be introduced into critical infrastructure. These small details were what distinguished the gathering once it was over: the technology appeared not as a broad promise, but as objects and systems that could be touched, tested and scrutinised.
The Digital Twin Futures Lab at Middlesex University Dubai hosted the gathering in collaboration with Tripolar Industries. The programme comprised four presentations delivered by Salah Ebrahimi, Abdullah Al Salmani, Sreejith Balasubramanian and Carlos Isaias Cuyala Gonzalez. According to summaries published after the event, the discussions ranged across AI powered industrial technologies, space innovation, digital twins for modelling and simulation, and physical AI in critical infrastructure.
A satellite in attendees’ hands, not just in the programme description: Abdullah Al Salmani, founder of SpacePoint, presented his experience building space technologies, while attendees held a physical satellite model. That moment did not turn the gathering into a hardware exhibition, but it illustrated the difference between talking about developing space skills and placing an educational and engineering tool in front of a learner, investor and operator in the same room.
On the industrial track, Sreejith Balasubramanian demonstrated digital twins operating live, while Carlos, head of AI at Tripolar Industries, explained what it takes to introduce physical AI into critical infrastructure, with a live demonstration of what the team is building. Salah Ebrahimi connected his industrial experience to the intersection of AI and heavy industry. Together, the presentations drew a clear line between digital modelling, physical systems and operating environments where a solution cannot remain merely a prototype.
The most important question emerged at the point of production: The host’s summary indicated that the conversation went beyond technical demonstrations to examine where implementation breaks down, the barriers preventing promising solutions from reaching production, and what is required to scale physical AI and digital twin applications in the Gulf. This was the gathering’s most consequential takeaway, because the value of a robot or digital twin is measured not only by the appeal of its demonstration, but by its ability to operate within the safety, data, integration and maintenance constraints of a real facility.
For founders and engineers in the region, the event brought together groups that do not always meet in the same place: researchers, system operators, investors, students, and companies working in robotics, space and industrial automation. The organiser said the conversations after the presentations enabled founders to connect with investors and recent graduates to meet companies they could build with or join. The community’s founder also said another gathering was planned for September or October, although no final date had yet been published.
The lab acted as a bridge: The host described the gathering as an extension of the Digital Twin Futures Lab’s aim to connect academic capability and emerging talent with industrial systems and the challenges facing the region. That connection matters because a digital twin does not mature inside a university alone, while an industrial operator cannot test every idea from scratch. Bringing a researcher, student, founder and operator together around a working model shortens the distance between them, but it does not eliminate the verification work that begins after the gathering.
What was established, and what still needs evidence: The follow-up post establishes that the four presentations and practical sessions took place, and that the discussion explicitly addressed the gap between demonstration and production. It does not, however, provide performance metrics for the systems shown, nor does it announce a new operational trial or a deal resulting from the gathering. The real test therefore comes after the room has emptied: whether the connections begun there become documented projects inside a factory, data centre or utility, and whether their owners publish comparable results. Only then will the community that brought builders together around physical objects become part of a measurable industrial record, rather than simply a promising night to begin.
