What happened: In mid June, Paris based startup Lemrock AI closed a €6 million funding round led by Galion, with participation from Sia Partners, to build infrastructure for agentic commerce. Its middleware passes product catalogues, live pricing and availability directly to language models, then completes the purchase within the conversation itself. The backdrop is a decline of as much as 30% in traffic at major retailers as consumers turn to ChatGPT and Perplexity instead of search engines. The platform serves more than 60 brands and processes 100 million interactions a month.

The lens: Economic transformation. The channel for commercial discovery is being redesigned before our eyes, moving from search results to an agent’s answer. For Gulf retail and ecommerce brands, being absent from language model catalogues could within a few years become as consequential as being absent from Google a decade ago. Those that integrate with the agent layer early can secure their place on the new digital shelf at the cost of entry, rather than the price of an auction.
